Turkey has imposed a definitive antidumping duty on imports of hot-rolled flat steel (thick plate), not in coils, from South Korea, with a communique published in the country’s official gazette Aug. 30, seen by Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights.
The decision comes after the Ministry of Trade received a request for a dumping investigation of the product in question from one of Turkey’s largest steel producers Eregli Demir Celik A.S, or Erdemir.
Following the completion of the antidumping investigation on imports of the product from South Korea covering the period Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2023, the ministry found that the product in question was dumped and caused material injury to the domestic industry.
The Turkish trade ministry decided to impose definitive antidumping measures on imports of hot-rolled flat steel (thick plate) at a rate of 4.34%-9.40% of the CIF value, effective as of Aug. 30, depending on the companies: 4.37% for POSCO, 4.34% for Hyundai Steel Company and 9.40% for other South Korean producers.
